AI data centers to drive 11-fold rise in water consumption by 2028: Morgan Stanley

The report by Morgan Stanley reveals that Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centers are poised to drastically elevate global water usage in the forthcoming years. This projected increase is attributed to the water required for cooling and electricity generation in these facilities. The report estimates that by 2028, AI data centers could consume around 1,068 billion litres of water annually, marking an 11-fold increase from the 2024 predictions.
